I think that in any country, the top food would be some kind of grain, just different ones in different countries, depending on what they can grow there.
Most of the Asian countries have rice with their meals, europeans have bread and pasta, made from wheat, oats, or rye, and in the early Americas, the Native Americans from both north and South America ate a lot of corn and potatoes.
Once potatoes found their way to the UK, then they were very popular there as well, and during the famine in the late 1800’s, many people survived on nothing much besides their potato harvest.

Unfortunately, many countries have developed a taste for foods that are not healthy for us, and now that big food corporations can start up just about anywhere, it is common to be able to have a hamburger or pizza in just about any country in the world.
