The Italian Tennis Open is ongoing in the round of 32. In the men's singles it is Novak Djokovic that is seeded #1 while his perennial opposition is Rafael Nadal who is seeded #2. It is expected that the 2 will hurdle their assignments so they will be meeting in the finals.

In the women's singles, it is surprising that US Open runner-up Victoria Azarenka is not seeded. She just defeated 3rd seed Sofia Kenin in the round of 32. The top seed is Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova is seeded 2nd.

The top 4 seeded women players are in the marquee for the quarterfinals of the Italian Open. Unfortunately giant-killer Victoria Azarenka who is unseeded was eliminated by 9th seed Garbine Muguruza. Top seed Simone Halep will be facing Muguruza.

In the men's single top seed Noval Djokovic is the remaining gun in the top 4. Seeded #2 Rafael Nadal was eliminated by 8th seed Diego Schwartzman.

It is now the finals of the Italian Open. In the women's singles it will be a match between top seed Simona Halep and 2nd seed Karolina Pliskova. In the men's single top seed Novak Djokovic will face 8th seed Diego Schwarzman who bested 2nd seed Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.

I have a feeling that both top seeds will win the trophy - Simona and Novak.

Top seed Novak Djokovic won the Italian Open men's singles with a win over Diego Schwartzman in the finals who succumbed in 2 sets of 7-5, 6-3.

In the women's side, top seed Simona Halep won by walkover when defending champion Karolina Pliskova retired due to back injury. Halep has 6-0 in the first set that Pliskova retired in the second set 1-0.
