The French Open rolled to a bad start for sentimental favorite Andy Murray. He was eliminated in the first round by Stan Wawrinka in 3 sets of 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. Upcoming sensation Jannik Sinner breezed past 11th seed David Goffin.

In the women's singles, top seed Simona Halep disposed of Sarah Sorribes-Tormo in 2 sets of 6-4, 6-0. The teen sensation Coco Gauff bested 9th seed Johanna Konta.

Chair umpire Eva Asderaki was being blamed for his miscall on the double bounce when German star Laura Siegemund hit the ball to prevent a set point by French player Kristina Mladenovic who was leading 5-1. With that miscall, Mladenovic lost her composure that Siegemund seized to win the first set by 7-5. In the second set Siegemund wrapped up the match with a 6-3 for a resounding win. The issue would have been easily resolved if replay was being used to decide the call.

German tennis star Laura Siegemund is the unseeded player to watch. She vanquished Julia Gorges in her usual fashion of incessant rallying in 3 sets of 1-6, 6-1, 63. On the other side, teenage star Coco Gauff exited with a 2nd round loss to Martina Trevisan in 3 sets of 6-4, 2-6, 5-7. Unfortunately for 2nd seed Karolina Pliskova, she was eliminated by Jelena Ostapenko in their 2nd round duel.

A big day of upsets in the 4th round. Women's top seed Simona Halep succumbed to the excellent playing of unseeded Iga Swiatek from Poland in 2 sets 6-1, 6-2. Another unseeded player Martina Trevisan defeated 5th seed Kiki Bertens in 2 sets of 6-4, 6-4.

In the men's singles. Italian teenage star Jannik Sinner caused the exit of 6th seed Alexander Zverev in 4 sets of 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Going to the quarterfinals the remaining favorites in the women's singles are 4th seed Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Champion, 3rd seed Elina Svitolina and 6th seed Petra Kvitova. It looks like the seeded are being waylaid by the qualifiers in both the women's and men's singles. In the biggest game today is the teenage star Jannik Sinner facing 2nd seed Rafael Nadal.

The women's singles is getting exciting in the semi-finals with the match between Polish star Iga Swiatek and Argentinian qualifier Nadia Podorosa. It was Swiatek who eliminated top seed Simona Halep in the 4th round and she also eliminated qualifier Martina Trevisan in the quarterfinals. On the other side, Podorosa humbled heavy favorite Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals.

In the men's singles, teenage star Jannik Sinner failed to advance to the semis when he lost to 2nd seed Rafael Nadal in 3 sets of 7-6, 6-4, 6-1.

In the women's singles. the other semifinal match will be a toss up between 4th seed Sofia Kenin and 7th seed Petra Kvitova. In the quarterfinals, Kenin disposed of Danielle Collins in 3 sets of 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 while Kvitova finished German Laura Siegemund in 2 sets of 6-3, 6-3.

In the semifinals of the men's singles, top seed Novak Djokovic will face 5th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas while the other match will be between 2nd seed Rafael Nadal and 12th seed Diego Schwartzman.

The finals for the women's singles has been completed. 4th seed Sofia Kenin will face teenage star Iga Swiatek on Saturday or the French Open cup. Swiatek disposed of Nadia Podoroska in 2 sets of 6-2, 6-1 while Kenin defeated heavy favorite Petra Kvitova also in 2 sets of 6-4, 7-5. For the record, Swiatek had defeated Kenin in the juniors but I think this time it is a much improved Kenin that Swiatek will be facing.

The finals for the men's single is between 2nd seed Rafael Nadal and 1st seed Novak Djokovic. Stefanos Tsitsipas gave a good fight but later on succumbed to Djokovic in 5 sets of 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6, 6-1. Nadal disposed of Diego Schwarzman in 3 sets of 6-3, 6-3, 7-6.

Iga Swiatek is favored over Sofia Kenin at -180 which means a bet of 180 will gain 100.

The oddsmakers were right that Iga Swiatek has the edge over Sofia Kenin in the finals of the French Open women's singles. After a fierce first set of 6-4 it seems that Kenin had lost her desire to fight by losing again the second set at 6-4. Swiatek is the youngest winner of the French Open at age 19.

The finals of the men's singles will be played tonight. World #1 and top seed Novak Djokovic is favored over world #2 Rafael Nadal.
