I'm extremely anti-social media. I have a Twitter, I have a Facebook, but I don't use them. I sign in maybe once a year or if there's a news story I'm trying to follow, as most post to their social media pages in real time rather than waiting for updates via websites, etc. Beyond that, I don't use or like social media. I'm also very against a centralized internet, so the fact that these social networks have reached monstrous sizes and have legitimate impacts on the world is terrifying to me. The information they can gather on people who volunteer it so readily, it's scary! Look how many people are being affected by old posts they made, things they've said on a website, and how seriously people now take social media as a means of communicating and representing themselves. What if you get yourself banned from Twitter of Facebook for something you've said or done? Now that's out there for potential employers to see, it's out there for the world to judge you on, and it's removed an avenue for you to communicate that, more and more, is being relied on for "official" communications.
It's a ridiculous level of integration people now have with social media and it's something that I strongly advise against. Step away from those platforms, don't use them for anything official, and don't volunteer information about yourself! It's an absolute treasure trove to people who know how to collect that information. If you must use social media for whatever reason, use alternative platforms. Mastodon, for instance. Also if you're going to have "official" communications, use something like Viber or Signal. Keep it private. Your privacy is so important, that's something that so many people have outright forgotten in this day and age.
