Honestly, the moment you are legally allowed to. I didn't learn straight away but it was only a few years later. It was pretty much a good time to learn because I had time to do regular lessons and it wasn't too daunting either
My parents & then the school when they had Driver's Ed when I was 16. It was a summer course & was a bit annoying going back to school in the summer! lol My pet peeve was because I live where it snows, they didn't teach us how to drive on snow & ice. My parents had to help with that portion.
I think the best age is when the kid can handle the responsibility. 16 may be too young for some people.
I feel like the best age to start learning to drive is as soon as you are legally allowed to be on the road with someone who is trained to teach you and be in the car with you. I never started learning to drive until I was around 26 and due to health issues that arose over the years, I have had to now stop learning to drive after failing my test. I am hoping to go back to learning again when I can afford to and when I feel my health is more stable. I do wish I had started to learn to drive when I was around 17/18 years old though.
