Do you prefer to use a laptop or desktop?

I usually prefer desktops because they are definitely more powerful than laptops, but it is nice to have the versatility of a laptop sometimes. ^^

I like desktops too. Because they can be customised. For cases when we need to travel and still have access to the PC, a laptop is my choice.

The problem with laptops is that they are too costly and not upgradeable.

Which is the best processor these days?

Depends on what you're looking to do with your computer, mostly. Most can get away with a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 if they're looking AMD, and then you scale up based on your needs. On the Intel side you've got locked or unlocked (Core i9 X series), AMD has unlocked 5 -> 9 platforms in the form the X platform chips...it's a mess, but it all boils down to what you're looking to do with your computer as to what processor works best for you.

(let's not get into enterprise level stuff like Epic or ThreadRipper)

Let us say the best rig for home use. Some gaming and stuff.

always laptop

For moderate gaming you'd want to run with at least a Core i5 or Ryzen 5, preferably i7/Ryzen 7 platform, and then of course GPU is going to play a big factor in performance as well when it comes to gaming. If you're looking for triple a titles to play, then you want a minimum i7/Ryzen 7 and preferably an i9/Ryzen 9 platform with a decent PSU and higher end GPU (RTX 2060 at least). I'm sure more hardcore system builders will come in and say don't forget to run an 850w or up PSU (gold rated), remember to run the OS on an m.2 drive, and make sure you're running at least DDR4 3600 memory (at least 16GB). Probably sound advice, but it's really all down to what games you're looking to play and what your budget is that this point. Can go nuts or can go more conservative.
