This is not to praise plastic but only to express my evaluation that plastic is a gift for the convenience of man. But man is careless with the disposal of plastic that the litter had caused many environmental problems. Think if there is no plastic, how can foodstuff be packed? How do we buy fish in the wet market? What about the water that we drink, do we bring a can or a metal drum?

I agree with your view on plastic. Plastic came as a boon to mankind, however, due to poor disposal it has become curse. Plastic trash are everywhere from Everest to the deep down the ocean. The problem plastic is cause is not because of plastic itself but due to poor disposal.

Agree with that, but the fact is that we did survive before plastic was invented . Different ways, although admittedly cumbersome methods were used to pack foods, store water etc. but they were better and not poisonous or damaging to the environment.
Here is a video on how food is packed using banana leaves, including liquid stuff.

I was already born before plastic was invented for use in packaging. That is why I am saying that plastic makes our life convenient. Yes, we can survive without plastic but it is very inconvenient. How would you wrap food products like chocolates, dried fruits, preserved meats like hotdog? You cannot wrap hotdogs in banana leaves and put it in the fridge.

I don't deny that plastic is not inconvenient, it is, and has made life easy for us, that is the problem, it is too easy and so has made us quite lazy. Wrapping food in plastic is not really good as research has also proved but we don't think about it other than convenience. and of course, banana leaves can be used to wrap food and keep in the fridge. It is waterproof and waxy which also prevents leakage. For most of us who cannot get fresh banana leaves, there is always other options, storing food in metal containers with good lids, covering containers or wrapping food in wax paper etc.

its true that plastic is really useful. But we can also find alternative ways to survive without it.
Surviving is different from living. I cannot imagine how our life would be if there is no plastic. chocolates will be wrapped in paper. Preserved food in bottles. That's fine. But raw fish, raw meat especially chicken, where do we wrap it when we buy from the wet market? It is good if your hand is gigantic that you can hold the fish in your palm.

I was reading Archie Comics yesterday and one story is about the bad effect of plastic. The girlfriend named Veronica has a campaign against plastic that she wanted the plastic coffee stirrer to be made of wood. Now that is clear that it is plastic versus wood. So what is your bet? I am for the plastic because it has saved a lot of trees that we have been using plastic straw and plastic cups. Besides, the problem with plastic is not the plastic per se but the wanton disposal. Oh, I get tired of saying that line over and over.

Pardon me for posting again and again on this thread. In the news last night about food prices, there was a video showing a woman buying cooked food that was placed in a small transparent plastic bag. The rice was also packed in the same style. That got me thinking if there was no plastic sheet or bag, how would that vendor pack the cooked food?

In the news on TV yesterday there was the issue of plastic in the ocean. Come to think of it. How did those tons of plastic ended up in the ocean? For sure those plastic sheets and plastic bags didn't go there by themselves. Why do we have to punish the plastic when it is not their fault to be there. Just food for thought if you are an environmentalist.
